If your next home is ready and your house is ready, winter can be a good time to sell in Lawrence Township. If you still need months to sort, repair and decide where you're going, spring is usually the better target.

Here's how to think it through:

  1. Fewer listings in winter means less competition. Buyers who look in January and February tend to be serious, often relocating for work in Princeton, Trenton or along Route 1.

  2. Spring brings more buyers, and more sellers. You'll see more traffic from March through June, but your home will also sit next to more choices.

  3. Your timeline matters more than the calendar. If you've found a home in a 55+ community or a condo you love, waiting four months for spring may cost you that home.

  4. Winter selling takes a little more care. Keep walkways clear, keep the house warm, and turn on every light for showings. Good photos of a snowy yard are fine. Dark rooms aren't.

  5. Use the winter to get ready either way. Declutter one room at a time, line up small repairs, and get a pre-listing estimate so you know your numbers before you commit.

  6. Talk to your family early. If adult children want to help with the move or keep certain things, the holidays can be a natural time to have that conversation.

There's no single right answer. The best season to sell is the one that lines up with where you're going next.
