Princeton Junction is served by the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District, not Princeton Public Schools. Princeton Junction is part of West Windsor Township, so a Princeton Junction mailing address does not mean a Princeton school assignment.

That mix-up comes up a lot with families relocating here. Here's what to know:

  1. Two towns, one district. The district serves West Windsor Township in Mercer County and Plainsboro Township in Middlesex County. It was formed in 1969 when the two towns merged their school districts.

  2. Size. The district has 10 schools and enrolled 9,386 students in the 2020-21 school year.

  3. Two high schools. High School South is in West Windsor and High School North is in Plainsboro. Which one your child attends depends on your address, so check the attendance zone for any home you're serious about.

  4. Recognition. Niche's 2025 Best Schools ranking placed the district 5th in New Jersey.

  5. Verify the address. Mailing addresses around here can be confusing. Some homes with a Princeton address are in other townships. Confirm the township and the school assignment with the district before you make an offer.

If you're moving from out of state, it helps to start with the school map, then look at homes inside the zones you like. It saves a lot of wasted weekends.
